Thomas Paine

Thomas Paine was an English-born political thinker and writer active in Britain, America, and France. His writings defend republican government and individual rights. In The Age of Reason, he argues for deism, belief in a creator known through nature and reason, while criticizing revealed religion, institutional churches, and the authority of the Bible.
