Biography
Voltaire, the pen name of François-Marie Arouet, was a French Enlightenment writer and philosopher. His writings use satire and argument to examine religious intolerance, political authority, and philosophical optimism. Candide follows a young man whose experiences repeatedly challenge the claim that everything is for the best.
